New Apple Laptops
This past week Apple announced upgrades to both the PowerBook and iBook laptop lines. PowerBooks are now equipped with G4 processors ranging in speed from 1.3 to 1.5 GHz, and every model comes with built-in AirPort Extreme cards. Our clients with heavy graphics demands, but who still want the option of portability, will appreciate that in the 15 and 17-inch models, you can get an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card with up to 128 MB of memory. The new iBooks are speedier too. The 12-inch iBook sports a 1 GHz G4 processor and the 14-inch has the option of a 1.2 GHz chip. Both the iBooks and the PowerBooks are as much as $100 less than the models they are replacing. The 15" Powerbook starts at $1,999.95 and the 12" iBook starts at just $1,099.95.

AIGA: Design for the Fun of It
Last Tuesday the AIGA DC chapter, of which MacMedics is the official 2004 Technology Sponsor, held their annual ‘Design For the Fun of It!’ bash at the Galleria Lafayette in downtown Washington. The theme for the event was Rock and Roll and the MacMedics booth aimed to please. We featured a ‘name that song game’ and at the end of the night we gave out a brand new iPod. Congratulations to Greg Friedrich of Alexandria, the lucky winner. Many people who played asked what program we used - that answer is Rock Star from Freshly Squeezed Software.
Congratulations also to AIGA for having a very successful event. Everyone had a great time, and we certainly enjoyed the opportunity to see many of our customers and make new acquaintances as well. We hope to see everyone there next year.

Add an AOL Inbox to your Mail Program
Many of our customers have had AOL accounts for years and continue to use it primarily for email. Until today, however, if you’ve wanted to check your AOL mail you’ve either had to sign onto AOL or use their webmail services. The good news, however, is that AOL has now made email accounts accessible through third party email programs like Microsoft’s Outlook, Entourage and Apple’s Mail. Any program that can access IMAP accounts can now access AOL email. For more information, along with instructions, click here.

Featured Product: BookEndz Docking Stations
A lot of our clients, and the entire staff here at MacMedics, use laptops as their main machine because they need to take their work with them. Using a laptop as a desktop replacement has many advantages, but one of the hassles is constantly unplugging and plugging back in Ethernet, external monitor, USB, Firewire, power, and audio cords every time you bring your laptop with you. This month's featured product, BookEndz, elegantly solves this problem. You start by plugging in all your cables like you normally would, but instead you attach them to the BookEndz ports. Then you simply 'plug' your laptop into the BookEndz. Now, when you're ready to leave the office, just release your PowerBook from the BookEndz and you're good to go. When you get back to your desk slide your PowerBook back in and you're up and running.
You can find more information here at the BookEndz website.
