[...] Don’t forget that if you’ve had a Mac in service for more than three years (any Mac), it’s time to retire and replace your internal hard drive! If a new Mac is not in the cards for you, do yourself a favor by being proactive, and retire your hard drive, before it kicks the bucket. We have a whole web page all about hard drive “retirement”. Check it out at http://www.HardDrivesDie.com. (We recommend hard drive retirement after 2 years of service in Apple laptops. Also don’t forget to check to see if you have the dreaded Seagate 7.01 firmware drive. If you do, replace it now!! Get details here.) [...]

[...] P.S. If you have a MacBook check to see if you have a Seagate 7.0.1 firmware drive. These drives are prone to an unusual fatal hard drive failure. If you have this drive installed, MacMedics recommends that your proactively replace it. See our previous blog post on the topic here. [...]

My big question, is since Mac is aware of the problem, as is Seagate apparently, who is going to foot the bill for the replacement drive, and the software? Surely a 1500.00 laptop should be expected to last more then one year. Does Apple have any type of exchange program for these defective drives? It's bad enough I am loosing a years worth of data, but will they send a replacement drive to me?
