The only place I will ever go for any Mac products.
Brought in a MacBook Pro and had the hard drive replaced and all data transferred. Two weeks later the track pad went crazy. I was on vacation and emailed Dana and he answered back immediately. When I returned home, I took the computer back and after consulting with Chris, decided to purchase a new MacBook Air. I was refunded the cost of the newly replaced hard drive and given a fair trade-in discount for my old computer. Great guys to work with and I recommend them highly for the personal service they provide. The only place I will ever go for any Mac products.
MacMedics remains our go-to place when time and getting it right is of the essence.
I brought my wife’s 2011 MacBook Air into the MacMedics Baltimore office yesterday to see if they could help remove some cruft from her machine’s hard drive. I was having some trouble removing all of the adware. Jeff met us at the door and in no time had downloaded an adware removal tool onto her hard drive, removed the adware, a boatload of movies and other items our daughter had placed on the machine and got the machine back to its former speed. Great to see professionals at work. This remains our go-to place when time and getting it right is of the essence. Thanks, guys.
Thanks Mac Medics
Thanks Mac Medics, especially Mike, for the excellent job of migrating the data and applications from my old Mac Pro to the new one. Could have had the migrating done cheaper at the local Apple Store but wanted to go with a trusted and reliable source for my data transfer. This is the second time I’ve used Mac Medics, and it was well worth the cost and saving my time. Also, Mac Medics is always there to respond to my questions with sound advice.
MacMedics was perfect!
MacMedics was perfect! I called them in the morning and told them about my Mac mayhem and they told me to come right over to the store. They fixed the problem in about 20 minutes and gave me all the information about was wrong with the computer and why. I understand that it may not always be that easy, but it was perfect timing. It was a million times more cost and time effective than any experience I have had at the Apple Store. They also were not condescending like the Apple Store can be. I will always come to MacMedics for all my Mac needs and definitely suggest you do the same. I also noticed that they have refurbished Mac products at great prices so definitely think about contacting them before buying your next iPad or MacBook. It was also great supporting a local business. Thanks MacMedics!
Two thumbs up!
Two thumbs up! When my MacBookPro began making ominous grinding noises during my travels I feared the worst, and set out to buy a new one – a cost I could ill-afford… Apple doesn’t repair laptops more than 5 yes old, so the store in Baltimore helpfully suggested that I consult with a good ‘repair shop’ before buying and gave me short list of reputable service providers to chose from. Two places in town could have helped but the turn around was more than a week – too late for my next flight. However, MacMedics assured me a 24 to 48 turn around, well worth the longish drive to Severna Park. Their service speaks for itself: – professional welcome and diagnostic on the spot, within a few minutes of my arrival I understood the problem (fan was shot); – Recommended replacement of fan, hard drive (to solid state for best performance). – They called the next morning (less than 24 hrs) for pick up; – They had done what they promised, ensured that nothing was lost from my old hard drive, completely updated the operating system, answered all my somewhat anxious questions and replaced – as a courtesy – rubber tabs under the laptop for which I knew Apple charged about $10 a pop. So, the laptop is working very well, the mechanics have been cleaned and renewed, the operating system has been updated, and I saved over $1,000. What’s not to like?
Amazing service!! Had a Mac that I recently acquired for my children. Brought all three kids to the store and Chris K. took amazing care of us. Even helped me entertain the kids. A+++ service. Will be going back to see them again.
I can’t tell you how wonderful MacMedics has been!
I can’t tell you how wonderful MacMedics has been! I am a photographer who has used Apple products for years. I end up taking hundreds of GB worth of photos and am very hard on my computer when it comes to editing and storing all of them. My Mac was a few years old and I wanted to upgrade my RAM and hard drive space. After speaking to MacMedics they helped me find the best solution- I ended up installing extra RAM, getting a solid state hard drive for my operating system, and getting separate hard drives to help store all of my photos. They fixed everything efficiently and were really patient and thorough when answering all of my questions! When I later had some issues with my disk permissions, they were able to walk me through what I needed to do to fix these and the problem was solved. Many people have no idea where to turn for Apple services, sales, or data recovery, so they just end up going to the Apple Store and paying too much for it, not getting an accurate diagnosis, or going elsewhere and ending up with terrible service. But that is not the case with MacMedics- they are great on all accounts. They also give you a 1 year warranty- a big plus in my book. Highly recommended!
Love the fast service and knowledgeable technicians!
Thanks, Macmedics for repairing my macbook hard drive! Totally covered under warranty-most appreciated for finding that out for us! Love the fast service and knowledgeable technicians!!

Mac Medics was able to understand my problem
Mac Medics was able to understand my problem and fix my computer much faster than I expected! I spent a week of frustration on the phone with Apple and even went it to an Apple Store but no one was able to help me. I walked in to Mac Medics, explained my problem and I was out of there in less than 15 minutes! I went in on a Monday and my Mac was returned to me on Friday – after being sent to Apple and getting the hard-drive recovered at Mac Medics. I am very impressed with the staff at Mac Medics and I would highly recommend their services! Thank you!

They will be our go-to folks for Mac repair from now on
Chris was very knowledgable, friendly and helpful, and we talked about a number of options. This was about 2 pm on a Friday afternoon. He had the fan replaced, a new hard disk installed plus additional memory by 4pm the same day. I am impressed. They will be our go-to folks for Mac repair from now on.
-Sandy Spring, Maryland
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! You saved my data, and I’m grateful (and busy running the back-up right now).”
-Severna Park, Maryland
Great service as always!
“Thanks so much for getting Andrew out to help us so soon– he was great, and we’re very happy to be back up and running. Great service as always, thanks again!”

I wish I had just gone to MacMedics first!
“In an effort to replace an old 2006 Macbook’s hard drive, I disrupted a few parts and was unable to get the unit to power on. I took the thing to both XXXXXXXXXXX in XXXXXXXXXX and two Apple stores before going to MacMedics. I wish I had just gone there first! The consultant Ed made a few quick adjustments and had the thing fixed in a jiffy, at no charge (I paid Chesapeake Computing a $40 service fee for nothing – they held it for almost two weeks and then informed me it wouldn’t turn on – duh!). MacMedics is what the Genius Bar should really be. Great customer service and truly knowledgeable staff. Thanks, Ed! You were awesome. Will definitely be back.”
This consultant was very easy to work with
“They made an effort to fix my MacBook Air after I spilled water on it. The consultant did a great job, but more importantly, he was understanding and easy to work with!”
Great Expertise! Reliable, Fast, Honest, Affordable!
“I was a MAC convert only a few years ago. My kids have been using MACS for years, all through high school and college. We’ve purchased from, and had MACMEDICS servicng our MACS since 2005, that 1st MAC I bought my now 25 year old, is still in operation in 2014. I purchased my Macbook Air, second hand from MACMEDICS 3 years ago, Im kind of tough on it, Ive used it everywhere with my mifi hotspot. Ive had it serviced 3 separate times by them. Each time MacMedics has performed service for us on mine or my kids MACS, I’ve been thrilled with how fast they are, and how reasonable they are. I highly recommend them!”

MacMedics – The 911 place to go
“I had a hardware issue with my IMAC with regards to the hard drive. When I took my IMAC to the Apple store, the hardware issue migrated to the white screen of death. I purchased a new IMAC and asked if it was possible to transfer data from the old hard drive. Unfortunately, the Apple personnel could not due to the issue with the hard drive. I searched the internet and stumbled upon MacMedics. I called them up and spoke to Chris who said they would look into seeing if they could retrieve the hard drive data. The good news was that it might be possible. I left them my new IMAC and my old hard drive and in less than a week they were able to retrieve all my data from the old hard drive and restore it on the new IMAC. I also brought in my daughter’s MacBook Pro and they replaced the old hard drive with a new solid state hard drive. Her Mac is now running efficiently. Pricing is very reasonable. Service is superb. Why would one want to go to any place other than MacMedics. If you want, you can ship your Mac to them and they will ship the repaired product back to you. Might sound corny, but thanks to a hard drive problem I found a place that is honest, responsible and and will only fix what is needed. A special thanks to Ed who worked on my IMAC and my daughters MacBook.”

MacMedics Super Service
“The Apple Store is always so busy with longer wait times. I highly recommend MacMedics, they always respond immediately to your issues or concerns. I dealt with Brandon Carter who is very knowledgeable and walk me through the corrective action.”
-Kent Island, Maryland
This consultant went above and beyond and did a great job.
“After having many problems with my mac, I went to the Apple store twice and spent over 5 hours in store (and they were still unable to fix my Mac even though it was still under warrantee). After leaving the Apple store and still having a computer that didn’t work, I found MacMedic’s store information and brought in my computer. Not only was every single employee beyond professional, understanding, and polite, they were also were able to fix my computer in less then 2 days! I have nothing but great things to say about MacMedics and would highly recommend this store to anyone who has an Apple product related issue!”
Dana Stibolt did an excellent job! Professional and timely service!
“I have to tell you about the wonderful experience I had with MacMedics, namely Dana Stibolt. It was Memorial Day weekend (Friday) and one of our Macs at THE LAND of KUSH vegan restaurant in Baltimore went haywire. The software wouldn’t launch. We kept seeing a spinning circle but no progress. After running HD diag and determining that there was possibly something wrong with the HD, we debated between going to the Apple store and purchasing a new one or seeking out other alternatives. We recalled one of our customers, Dana Stibolt, working for this company MacMedics so we reached out to him to get some direction. The million dollar question…”Is your data worth $200?” The answer, “YES!” Dana came out the same day to diagnose the problem. The hard drive needed to be replaced but most importantly HE SAVED OUR DATA!!!!! Everything was back to normal by Tuesday afternoon! Thanks a million, Dana!!!”
Thanks for the quick Macintosh Service.
“I just wanted to express my thanks for your quick repair of my MAC. As it is the lifeblood of my company, your quick attention and turnaround were greatly appreciated. As a small business owner, our computer equipment is crucial to our success. I dropped my MAC off on Wednesday afternoon, and you were able to diagnose the problem, have the part ordered and put it all back together for me to pick up by Thursday afternoon, limiting the impact to my business. I am so glad I found your company and plan to use MACMEDICS for all my future computer requirements.”
Customer for life!
I just returned from MacMedics on Benfield Blvd. My 2006 IMAC was not receiving e-mail and after trying unsuccessfully for days to solicit help from Verizon and Mac Support, I was at my wits end.
Long story short, I called at 10AM, made the 20 minute trek to MacMedics and was home with my beloved MAC in perfect working condition by 11:45AM. Sounds made up but it’s the truth.
The attendant (Chris) took over the repair process immediately and got right to the problem while explaining the mechanics of his repair. When I asked “how much?”, he said “it only took me 5 minutes so there is no charge”.
Needless to say, the customer service here is “off the charts”. These people are completely honest and extremely knowledgeable.
I have been considering upgrading to the new 27″ and when I do, I will be going to MacMedics rather than an Apple store.
Kudos to MacMedics! You have a customer for life!
A New/Old MacMedics Client Has This To Say: First of all, I have three things to say: “use them”, “use them”, “use them”.
It’s no secret that MacMedics can handle pretty much anything our clients can come up with (even when other Apple service or consulting firms can’t).
Here’s a recent MacMedics review a customer left for us. He had been to see us 20 years ago, and when he ran into a tough problem he remembered us and came back. He also got to witness our data recovery skills and customer service for another client who happened to visit MacMedics in Severna Park, Maryland at the same time he did.
“My MacBook from 2009 stopped working with Quicken. I went to an online Quicken specialist, supposedly, and after 5 hours of working on my computer, they couldn’t fix the issue. I remember a company that I used 20 years ago, and called to see if they were still around – they were. When I brought my computer to them, after a day of working on my computer, like they said, they had the problem fixed!
First of all, I have three things to say: “use them”, “use them”, “use them”.
Initially I spoke with their technician, Chris over the phone, who encouraged me to use their in-house lab services, costing $199. After having my computer fixed, I bought additional memory, by my request for $85. One thing that was reassuring was Chris’s people skills. He assured me that they will find a solution and that they could take care of the problem. During the repair process, Chris stayed in touch and told me his game plan, this wasn’t a simple fix; especially since another company wasn’t successful in resolving my problem.
Side note: After having my problem fixed – A college kid came in disheartened, having her hard drive quit. Watching Chris at work, reassuring by giving her a plan of action and a worst case scenario – you could see the change of this client’s demeanor, to that of calm in a matter of seconds. I have no doubt that he had another happy client.

Great Macintosh Service Is What We’re All About. We Can’t Argue With A 5 Stars, 5 Mice, & 5 Apples Review!
We love helping our clients, and when it’s time to say good bye to your trusty Macintosh we’ll always consider all of the options and if a repair is not appropriate, we can transfer your data from the old Mac to a new one. We’ll recycle the old one for you as well. In some cases, your old, broken, or damaged Mac might even have trade in value which you can apply to a new Mac purchase or a repair.
Here’s a review that was posted by one of our Washington DC clients recently:
“My colleagues and I have been using MacMedics for years and love their service. Maybe because I haven’t had a broken screen but they have been great with all other repairs and assistance. They did thoughtfully advise me when it was time to pull the plug on my old and dropped iMac (it was time) and they graciously handled the funeral arrangements for it. Being able to recycle it for me was a plus. I can’t imagine going anywhere else for my Mac needs. I also give them 5 stars, 5 mice, and 5 Apples.”

There is really no substitute for accurate and authorized Apple repair service. Our talented and Apple Certified Macintosh techs solved another problem for two different Apple customers who both took the time to leave a 5-Star Review for both our Severna Park and Lanham offices this week.
When you’re having issues with your Mac, please come visit our fully staffed and stocked offices in either Severna Park or Lanham, Maryland. We’ll fix your Mac under Apple’s Limited Warranty or Apple’s extended warranty, AppleCare. Or, we can efficiently service your out of warranty, vintage, or obsolete Macintosh. When your Mac repair is complete, we’ll ensure you know everything you need to know in order to preserve and protect your valuable data and operate your computer successfully for as long as possible.
We love to help! So instead of making an appointment, trying to find parking, dealing with crowds, or having to worry about your data being erased, or having to deal with your computer being shipped away for repair, come see the Apple Certified Technicians at MacMedics.
Thanks to our customer, Mark, who had his Mac serviced in our Lanham office this week. Here’s his review from Yelp:
My Macintosh desktop computer had a complicated problem; part of the electronics had failed, while most individual components were fine. Since MacMedics is a certified Apple Service Provider and Reseller MacMedics correctly diagnosed the problem, which endless Apple phone support had been unable to do. The replacement part and labor were free, since my computer was still covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan. My computer now works better than when it was new. I also got some excellent technical advice on maintaining the computer, including information on back-up plans. I highly recommend MacMedics.
Also, thanks to our customer, Richard, who had his Mac serviced in our Severna Park office this week. Here’s his review from Yelp.
Small repair. Done in a 15 minute walk up. Best service I have had in a long time. Highly recommend!
Your Macintosh Service Advantage: MacMedics Is Exclusively Apple!
As the Apple Macintosh family of computers and other Apple devices like the iPod, iPad, and iPhone become increasingly more popular, more and more computer repair places are offering “Mac Repairs” as a “Side Business”.
It’s tempting for PC centric computer shops to try and grab a new revenue stream by cashing in on the increased number of Macs in the marketplace. Do you really want a PC guy/gal at a PC shop or at a big box store, who is not trained, certified, or authorized in Apple service guessing their way though your Apple repair? We didn’t think so.
We’ve seen some amazing cases of Apple service gone horribly wrong at both big box stores and at independent shops. In fact, we’ve had situations where a computer repair place has tried to fix a Mac, botched or misdiagnosed the repair, only to bring it into MacMedics for us to bail them out of a tough Mac repair situation.
When you’re looking for an Apple Authorized Service Provider for your broken Macintosh or Mac data recovery case, you really should seek out an experienced and professional Macintosh service organization with ALL of the Apple Credentials and Authorizations, such as MacMedics.
MacMedics is a very well established (since 1989) Apple Authorized Service Provider, Apple Authorized Value Added Reseller, as well as Certified Members of The Apple Consultants Network. We have an impressive 22-year history of exclusive dedication to the Macintosh computer platform. We were offering a third party alternative to stuffy Apple Dealer service way before the Apple Store, and way before anyone else in the State of Maryland. In fact, MacMedics was offering on-site Macintosh service in the late Eighties during a time where such a service was considered “in-shop” and “on the bench” everywhere else.
Our Apple service part inventory is quite likely the largest collection of Apple service parts in the Mid-Atlantic region. Since MacMedics bought out macUpgrades of Bethesda, Maryland we acquired all of their Apple Authorized service parts. That’s like having a DOUBLE 20-year accumulation of Apple factory service parts and other supplies! Not only do we have hundreds and hundreds of genuine Apple service parts in stock, we also have tons of vintage and obsolete Apple service parts so we can repair any Macintosh computer ever made. We also have our own Macintosh computer museum so if there is a special service situation where we need to access data from 20 years ago, or make something work in order accomplish a special task, we can do that too!
So when it comes to the most basic Mac repairs, or services like hard drive replacements/upgrade and memory upgrades (ours come with a lifetime warranty by the way), or the most advanced services like Macintosh data recovery or liquid spill rescue, you can count on MacMedics to be there to provide an accurate diagnosis and the correct and appropriate repair for your Macintosh computer.
MacMedics is the leading Apple Authorized Service Provider for Baltimore, Washington, Annapolis, Columbia, and Towson, Maryland. Our On-Site service and consulting that is available throughout the Mid-Atlantic region is our claim to fame, but we’re also quite well known for Apple Authorized sales as well.
MacMedics is an Apple Authorized Value Added Reseller and an Apple Authorized Government Reseller, and as such we have the Authorizations from Apple to not only sell the full Macintosh Computer line, but also to resell the iPad, iPod, and Apple TV.
If you have a unit that is beyond repair, or just one that you put to the side a few years ago, we’ll accept it as a trade in on a new hardware purchase or as credit towards a repair or data recovery. Even if the hardware you have is very old, or extremely damaged, we’ll still accept it for e-waste recycling. So, drop off your broken PC, Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPod, cell phone, or other small electronics like hard drives, small printers, or other reasonably sized electronics, cable, power supplies and adapters for free recycling.
With our two fully staffed Apple Authorized Sales and Service locations serving the Baltimore, Annapolis, Washington DC area as well as the entire Washington DC and Baltimore region, we’re a great place to drop a sick Mac off for repair. Our office in Millersville is 1/10 of a mile off I-97 and our office in Lanham is 1 mile outside of I-495/I-95 and 1/2 mile off of RT 50. No appointments are ever necessary!
If you live in Annapolis and commute to Baltimore or Washington DC or vice versa, then you drive right past one of our offices on every trip you make on I-97 or RT-50. Stop in to see us with your sick or broken Mac, or swing by to pick up a cable, power adapter, iPod, iPad, or anything else Apple related!

MacMedics is Washington, DC & Baltimore’s Original, Independent Mac Shop Since 1989 and we just expanded by buying one of our former competitors, Apple Specialist, macUpgrades of Bethesda, Maryland. Like MacMedics, macUpgrades was also founded in 1989. You can read more about this purchase on our website at http://www.macmedics.com/macupgrades.
Our purchase of macUpgrades now makes MacMedics the oldest Apple service and consulting firm in Maryland. MacMedics is proud to be Apple Authorized Value Added Resellers. Apple Authorized Government Resellers, and Apple Authorized Service Providers, as well as Certified Members of The Apple Consultants Network. MacMedics has been in business and fixing Macs all over Maryland since way, way before the Apple Store or anyone else. In fact, our headquarters in Severna Park AND our location in Lanham are larger than most Apple Stores, and our Mac Service Lab has over 100 feet of bench space.
MacMedics was founded in the Annapolis, Maryland area in 1989 by Dana Stibolt during a time when Apple Service was kind of a side business for Apple Dealers. MacMedics began offering an alternative to the stuffy Apple Dealer mentality of the “Service Department”.
1. All Apple service was carry-in only, and generally pretty slow. Plus, it was a burden to our clients to be without a computer for a week, so MacMedics came to you and performed your Macintosh service both quickly and inexpensively.
2. The Apple service warranty then AND now is only 90 days. Nobody else offers a full one year warranty on out of warranty Apple repairs. When you choose MacMedics over the Apple store and other Apple Service locations for your broken Macintosh, you get a 1-year warranty parts and labor on whatever repair you had performed.
MacMedics is the only Mac shop that offers a low-cost extended warranty that includes ALL parts AND labor (for replacing bad parts). For MacBooks, Mac minis, and iMacs, pay just $99 for our Walk In Service Plan and your entire Mac is covered for a year (MacBook Pros and Mac Pros are $149). Also, with WISP, you get two free check ups per year and three phone or remote support incidents. Plus, if your Mac needs service down the road, your repair will be moved to the top of our repair queue for FREE priority Mac service.
With our army of Apple Certified Technicians and Consultants, MacMedics serves the entire Mid-Atlantic region with the area’s largest fleet of Apple loaner/rental hardware. MacMedics also stocks an amazing array of Apple Service parts, new and used Macintosh computers, hard drives, computer memory modules, software, and a TON of other accessories and Apple related items. Plus, with our purchase of macUpgrades we now also have all of their retail inventory at Severna Park and Lanham, as well as their own massive collection of Apple Service parts which when combined with our collection, might be the Mid-Atlantic’s largest and most complete Apple Service part inventory. Also, with our combined inventories and stockpile of junked Macintosh computers of all types, we have an enormous collection of obsolete and vintage parts that can be harvested and used to repair a Mac that is too old for the Apple Store to even check in for service.
It’s also important to note that MacMedics is a Maryland based and locally owned company. When you’re working to support locally owned businesses in your community and keeping the dollars in the local economy, don’t forget about MacMedics. There are other Mac companies operating in Maryland that are not based in this state (for instance, the Apple Store is not a locally owned company). It’s also important to note, that MacMedics has had only one owner in it’s history (Dana Stibolt), so unlike some firms, our roots are deep in both the Macintosh community and in Maryland.
If you need Macintosh assistance, help, training, Apple Authorized Service, Apple Authorized Sales, iPhone, iPod, or iPad repairs without the hassle of:
A. Getting to the mall or driving into the city.
B. Finding a parking spot and in some cases even paying for parking as well.
C. Lugging your Mac desktop (if you don’t have a laptop) and walking all the way thru the mall or down city sidewalks.
D. Trying to first get an appointment with an Apple Genius, and then not really getting enough time to really pick their brains for expert Macintosh advice.
It’s also important to know that the Apple Store does not perform data recovery. If you think your data is at risk, setting up your computer on the Genius Bar to copy your data, is generally not a good idea. As hard drives fail, they generate heat, and as they generate heat they fail more. We’ll remove the drive from your computer and put it right on our data recovery equipment to try and rescue your data. Our fee for this type of recovery is only $399, for any size, single hard drive. Read more here.
MacMedics is also quite well known for our Macintosh Liquid Spill Rescue service which is just $199 (plus parts if needed) no matter how long it take. We’re often able to save a liquid spill laptop for just $199. See this link for info and see this for a liquid spill testimonial.
(Plus, as an added bonus ALL Macintosh laptop repairs are performed locally right here at MacMedics. The Apple Store will often send your laptop away for Apple Depot Service where it’s out of your control and their’s)
Our expert Apple Certified employees stand ready to help at anytime. As a two time “Best of Baltimore” designated Mac Repair Shop, we are super proud to be an award-winning Apple Authorized Service Provider and Authorized Apple Value Added Reseller. We’re a great alternative to either buying a new Mac or bringing a sick Mac computer to the Mall. We’re famous for our “Computer Store on the corner” personal service.
MacMedics is also a multiple repeat winner of Apple’s “Commitment To Excellence Award”. In fact, we’re the only Apple Authorized Service Provider In Anne Arundel or Prince Georges counties to win this award according to Apple. MacMedics IS the ONLY Apple Authorized Service Provider and the only independent Apple Authorized Reseller in all of Prince George’s county in Maryland.
The Commitment To Excellence Award recognizes MacMedics for several things, but most importantly for accuracy and speed of Macintosh repairs. There’s a reason that MacMedics is the most frequently referred service firm for tough Mac service cases, like LCD replacements, liquid damage, vintage or obsolete Mac equipment, and Macintosh data recovery. With well over 60,000 in-lab and on-site service cases and our staff’s combined Mac experience of over 200 years, MacMedics IS the place to bring your sick Mac!
Speaking of speed of Apple repairs, nobody is FASTER than MacMedics. In 90% of Apple Warranty or AppleCare repairs that come in for service, we have the repair complete and back in the customer’s hands in less than 24 hours. Not fast enough for you? We have a number of rental computers of all Apple models, so if you’re having a Macintosh Emergency, we have a way to keep things running for you.
We also perform Hard Drive Upgrades (under warranty or not) and expert Macintosh Data Recovery, two things you simply can’t get at ANY Apple Store. Plus, if you do need a new hard drive, we can upgrade the size, speed, and you get a 3-year warranty, compared to like-for-like hard drive swap at the Apple Store, plus there you only get a 90 day warranty.
Come visit either of our TWO fully-staffed and stocked Macintosh Service & Sales locations in Severna Park, MD (2 miles from I-97 and RT 2 Ritchie Highway) or in Lanham, MD (1 Mile from I-495/I-95 just inside the Beltway of off Rt 50 and Martin Luther King Hwy.)
Got a problem? Wanna’ talk about it? Just pick up the phone and call your nearest MacMedics office. It’s unlikely that you can get anyone at the Apple Store on the phone, and most other places just send you to voicemail. You will only get voicemail here if everysing phone line we have is tied up (and that does happen).
One other great thing about coming to visit us, is the fact that parking is here is not an issue, and it’s free and 10 easy steps right into our office. So, avoid the soul-sapping search for parking when you’re trying to find someplace to park in Bethesda, Hampden, Fells Point, or at the Mall.
MacMedics Frequently Asked Macintosh Service Questions: Snow Leopard Installation
Do I need to to back up before installing Snow Leopard?
In a word YES! Whenever you run a minor or major software update, you DO need to have your data backed up (and be sure to have that back up tested as well!).
Time and time again we have clients come in with a major hard drive problem right after they have tried to upgrade their Mac OS.
Run Time Machine BEFORE you run that installer. If you are not on Leopard or Snow Leopard, run a program like SuperDuper to make a clone of your hard drive before you perform your upgrade. Even if you have a Time Machine back up, I highly suggest you have a fresh clone of your hard drive on standby whenever you’re running a major Apple software upgrade. This way if something goes wrong, you have a bootable copy of all of your data. Nice thing about a clone vs. Time Machine is you can boot off it and TEST it BEFORE you run a major upgrade. This way if something goes wrong you can get right back to work by booting off the clone.
Never run an Apple software update when you’re on deadline or have a major project due. Updates should always be performed when you’re not under the gun.
Should I unplug my external backup when installing Snow Leopard?
Yes. In fact MacMedics recommends that all USB and FireWire devices (except your keyboard and mouse) should be unplugged before you run the Snow Leopard installer. That holds true for any software update or upgrade as well.
See our full Snow Leopard upgrade Blog post with all the things you should consider here.

Before Mac Repair: MacBook Air with warped LCD and screen back (and cool fake desktop picture).
Before Mac Repair: With MacBook Air display assembly detached from computer.
After Mac Repair: After damaged Apple MacBook Air was successfully repaired. The display assembly was the only service part we needed in order to complete the repair.
Well, the unusual Macintosh repair and services cases never seem to stop. Just after we rescued 2.2 MBs off a 20 year old Mac IIci, and thought we’d be back to normal Mac repairs and service, this fascinating case showed up in the lab today. We’re pretty sure that out of all of the cases that came to our Millersville repair center today this one takes the cake.
So this nice fellow with a really sore chest brought this crumpled MacBook Air by MacMedics today (he’s okay by the way!). This MacBook Air was involved in a pretty serious car accident. The client who brought it to us was in the passenger seat with the MacBook Air on his lap, when he was suddenly in a serious car accident.
The bent screen housing and the warped LCD where caused when the open MacBook Air on his lap was “piledriven” right into his chest by the deploying air bag. (I never thought I would be writing this to an insurance company).
Needless to say, this MacBook Air is super smashed! Best of all is the amazing black and white “desktop picture” of a majestic mountain that was left behind as memento of the accident.
We’ve just started our work on the unit, but despite being slammed into it’s users chest the unit seem to still work.
BTW: If your MacBook Air just has a broken LCD, MacMedics can help! Just drop it off or mail it in using this form.
We’ll keep our Blog readers posted on what we find out about this “smashed” MacBook Air. Enjoy the video!
Update 7/15/09: The display assembly was the only service part we needed in order to complete the repair. The MacBook Air was fine other wise and passes ALL Apple service diagnostics. There was no other case damage to the unit, other than the “taco” shaped LCD.
