In many cases, these folks have already called someplace else, only to get the run around.

In some cases, the issue can be very simple and what looks like a complex problem, and be quickly solved on the spot.

See the Angie’s List review from just such a MacMedics client from 2/2/12:

I added a Seagate external hard drive to my iMac and by accident loaded some Windows based software onto my Apple computer. The end result was that I was unable to start my computer. I called several Computer Tech companies to help me and it was going to cost several hundred dollars to fix the problem and would take several days. Bad news, I needed the computer running immediately and paying several hundred dollars was not a good thing.

I decided to look for a local company that specialized in Apple computers and found MAC MEDICS. I called them and explained the issue and the tech person thought he knew how to fix the problem. He walked me through several steps over the telephone but could not get the computer to work. Unfortunately that meant I would have to bring the computer in. I got to the store later that day and the technician who helped me on the phone came out to take a look at the computer. Fortunately it was an easy fix and he got the computer running correctly. He explained that this was a common problem that he has seen from customers. How much did he charge me, $0.00!

Wow what a company! I will definitely use MAC MEDICS in the future. In fact I purchased from them an inexpensive service plan for this computer.

Here’s another Angie’s list review from 11/22/10:

In addition to doing an excellent job replacing my iMac’s hard drive, the owner, Dana Stibolt, spent a lot of time with me on the phone explaining my options. He worked me in that very day, and completed the work in less than two hours. I was very impressed. Although it was quite a drive from where I live, I would go there again should my iMac need service again.

Both of these are from Yelp.com. We frequently re-post these here on our blog to give them wider exposure. For what ever reason, Yelp filters all 29 of our reviews for the MacMedics Millersville location.

I have been a customer of MacMedics for a long time. It seems that whenever I run into a jam, be it a crash of a hard drive or something less urgent such as a problem with my iPhoto library, MacMedics has come through with flying colors! They are professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. They calmly determine what the problem is and offer solutions to fix it.

Last week I raced to MacMedics with my back up drive, which I thought, might be compromised because of a power surge. I was going to arrive after closing time, and after calling Dana Stibolt; he assured me that he would wait for me because he understood the urgency of the situation. He quickly determined what the problem was and offered an inexpensive solution for the problem.
I trust m MacMedics with all of my Apple needs. They have consistently performed well beyond my expectations. You can count on them.

MacMedics saved me. My daughter’s laptop with all her college applications and essays was hit by a hot chocolate spill on Christmas Eve. The MacMedics staff instructed me that I should bring the computer in the day after Christmas and they were able to retrieve the data from the hard drive. She was able to submit her applications for college with one day to spare. They were prompt, reassuring, and gave excellent service and advice.

Our talented and Apple Certified Macintosh techs solved another problem for two different Apple customers who both took the time to leave a 5-Star Review for both our Millersville and Lanham offices this week.

When you’re having issues with your Mac, please come visit our fully staffed and stocked offices in either Millersville or Lanham, Maryland. We’ll fix your Mac under Apple’s Limited Warranty or Apple’s extended warranty, AppleCare. Or, we can efficiently service your out of warranty, vintage, or obsolete Macintosh. When your Mac repair is complete, we’ll ensure you know everything you need to know in order to preserve and protect your valuable data and operate your computer successfully for as long as possible.

We love to help! So instead of making an appointment, trying to find parking, dealing with crowds, or having to worry about your data being erased, or having to deal with your computer being shipped away for repair, come see the Apple Certified Technicians at MacMedics.

Thanks to our customer, Mark, who had his Mac serviced in our Lanham office this week. Here’s his review from Yelp:

My Macintosh desktop computer had a complicated problem; part of the electronics had failed, while most individual components were fine. Since MacMedics is a certified Apple Service Provider and Reseller MacMedics correctly diagnosed the problem, which endless Apple phone support had been unable to do. The replacement part and labor were free, since my computer was still covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan. My computer now works better than when it was new. I also got some excellent technical advice on maintaining the computer, including information on back-up plans. I highly recommend MacMedics.

Also, thanks to our customer, Richard, who had his Mac serviced in our Millersville office this week. Here’s his review from Yelp.

Small repair. Done in a 15 minute walk up. Best service I have had in a long time. Highly recommend!

The employees at Mac Medics were so helpful and polite. When me and my girlfriend went to the Apple Store they belittled her, talked down to her, and made her feel even worse about the problems she was already having with her MacBook. Mac Medics took the time to explain what the problems might be, how they may be resolved, and the different levels of pricing that may result from the work. I would recommend for any Mac owner to use the services that Mac Medics provides. I know that in the future if I have any problems or when I need to replace my old MacBook, I will be returning to Mac Medics.

I agree with the previous reviewer; skip the Apple store lines and come straight to MacMedics. The fan started whirring loudly in my two year old Macbook Air. I first made an Apple Store appointment, but emailed MacMedics for a quote on the cost of repair. They replied promptly. I realized I bought Apple Care, brought it in, was helped without a wait, and had it back and fresh and fixed in 27 hours. Brilliant!

I’m utterly tickled I didn’t have to go to the mall for this, wait for a genius bar appointment, or deal with any hassle. Awesome service, thanks!

This review is from Kevin P from Greenbelt, Maryland. I included this here since the review above mentions the “previous reviewer”.

Macintosh support in Prince George’s County. Took my 2006-era MacBook Pro here after it died. They convinced me it wasn’t worth repairing. Instead, I ordered a replacement model. They added memory to my specifications and copied over the data from my old hard drive, something I couldn’t have done on my own, while charging only the base $99 for labor. We had a bit of a misunderstanding over the cost of the memory, which I’m dinging them a point for, but it was resolved to my satisfaction. I’m looking forward to dealing with them on all my future Macintosh issues rather than driving to Annapolis or Columbia. (I wish I’d known about them a lot sooner as it would have saved me a lot of mileage!)

You can read our Top 12 Reasons why MacMedics is a better choice than the Apple Store for Apple Authorized Service (both Warranty/AppleCare OR out-of-warranty service) in one of our most popular Blog posts at http://www.noappointments.com.

Were you happy with the service at MacMedics Lanham or Millersville? If so would help us spread the word about our good Apple service? Thanks in advance!

Mac Medics RULES! Back in the day, you could call Apple and ask a question (or more) and get a nice person to answer that question. It used to be that way at XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX in Baltimore, but the last time I called (a few years back) and asked for a little help figuring out a kink in my wireless network, they were ready to send out a person and charge me a $250.00 minimum. So when I started the G5 up this morning and all the folder icons were gone, (files were there, just no folder icons) I searched the web, found no solution. Ran Disk Utility and Disk Warrior. They found things, fixed them, but didn’t solve the problem. I finally called Mac Medics, whom I had dealt with before. Matthew suggested doing an archive and install. I had never done one, even after all these years. In five sentences he gave me what I needed to know to safely get on with my repairs. It took a little time to get some of my apps reinstalled, but I was back on the road. And he didn’t charge me a dime. THANK YOU MAC MEDICS.

Do you have a Macintosh service problem? We’d love to help! MacMedics has been fixing Macs and helping Mac users in Washington, Baltimore and elsewhere since 1989. Our location in Lanham is the ONLY Apple Authorized Service Provider in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and our location in Millersville is the Annapolis and Baltimore’s original independent Macintosh repair center and data recovery specialist.

Recently, MacMedics started the process of buying long-time Apple Specialist, macUpgrades of Bethesda, Maryland. You can read more about that announcement at http://www.macmedics.com/macupgrades.

The review from our new client and Mac friend, Daniel appears below. Thanks for the review!

I recently had a RAM debacle while upgrading my Operating system. As hard as I tried to mess things up, when I got into MacMedics I had unparalleled service from Dana and his crew. They were able to get my MacBook back up and running better than ever in one day and save me the hassle of losing my computer for an entire work week. Yes I did have to pay for it and yes it was worth every penny.

Thinking of stopping by one of The Apple Stores for a Mac Repair? We offer a number of compelling reasons to visit MacMedics instead. Our clients tell us that the number one reason that people come visit MacMedics for Mac service vs. The Apple Store is that no appointments are ever required. Also we offer 24-hour warranty repair (for most warranty repairs), Low cost rental computers (if needed), 1-year parts and labor warranty on all out-of-warranty repairs (The Apple Store only offers a 90-day warranty), Hard Drive upgrades (The Apple Store will only replace your drive with the same size), Advanced Macintosh Data Recovery, and we repair ALL Apple computers right here in our shop (Even Vintage and Obsolete units). We do not ship out laptops for Apple “Depot Repair” as is the practice for many cases at The Apple Store. Plus, we offer a VIP repair program for Walk-In service that blows the doors off of Apple’s One-To-One, Joint Venture, or even AppleCare. Our VIP repair program can cover your future repairs for as little as $99 (Mac Pros and MacBook Pros are $149). In the case mentioned below by our new customer George, we were ready to take care of his PowerBook G4 when the Apple Store turned him away. In the end he opted for a MacMedics reconditioned MacBook Pro with a 1-year year warranty. So all things considered, we did what we LOVE to do! We took care of someone that needed our services, and we were able to do it for a great price which makes both our customers AND us very happy. Check out George’s review of MacMedics from Yelp below:

“My name is George and my Mac G4 17″ laptop died on Saturday (02/19/11). I took it to the Apple Store in Columbia Mall on Sunday and after their diagnostic service, they indicated that they could not either determine the problem or repair my laptop because it was obsolete. However, the best thing that they did do was to was recommend MacMedics, to me. On Monday, I called MacMedics and they asked me if I could bring my laptop in that day. Within two hours they had provided me a quote to repair my unit, but they recommended that I should replace it, if possible. Because of the used and reconditioned units that MacMedics has in stock, I was able to upgrade to a MacBook Pro – 17″ within the timeframe and at a price that was within my budget. On Tuesday (02/22/11) MacMedics (Matthew) had that unit ready for pick up with all of my data transferred from my old laptop and ready for use.

Great response, great service and great price.”

Thanks,
It would however be great if we did not have to grapple with difficult data recoveries under stress. Basically, we don’t like to see our customers cry, when data is lost. The following is a review that one of our clients just posted over on Yelp. Thankfully this story has a happy ending. Also, we had forgot about the iPhone that we fixed that fell off the roof of a car. That was a pretty epic repair.

If you’d like to check into the multiple Yelp reviews we have, be sure to take a look at our “Filtered Reviews”. Turns out, that our reviews are so positive that Yelp’s review filter thinks most of them are fake.

“I have been a Mac user now for about 6 years and any time I have had anything minor to major issues I have gone right to Mac Medics. These guys are seriously like under cover angels.

One time I left my iPhone on the roof of my car and it flew off going 55 mph. These guys were able to salvage my phone and it was completely affordable. They did it fast too!

Recently my friend’s hard drive failed. She and I both are photographers and our hard drives are everything. They could tell we were both very upset and despite it being an incredibly difficult fix that would normally be around $400 they agreed to try and figure something out and try and help us the best they could for a much more affordable price. To quote them “lets put our hearts and our minds into this and do our best.”

They really are amazing guys and they will ALWAYS get my business and I will always take my fellow Mac users there.”
