My five-year-old, well-out-of-warranty (but dearly loved) 17” MacBook Pro committed suicide last Thursday evening. It had been behaving perfectly 99.9% of the five years I’ve owned it, then it went glitchy with video and virtually flamed out. It was HOT. Alton Brown could have used it as a heat source for a punishment on “Cutthroat Kitchen” (“One chef will have to use this malfunctioning laptop as their ONLY HEAT SOURCE…”). There was a sizzling-snap noise and it was dead. I have a lot of IT experience and have built and rebuilt countless Windows PCs and laptops. While I suspected the logic board (what everyone else calls a system board or motherboard), I wasn’t sure.
I don’t *want* a new laptop. So I logged in to make an appointment at the Apple Store for a repair quote. While I expected it to be traumatic, I didn’t expect the first trauma to be trying to simply get an appointment. The first available option was five days out! How could I survive in limbo for five days? Then I noticed that there are several Apple-annointed independent computer repair options in the area! SAVED!
Honestly, I chose MacMedics partly for the quickly-available appointment and partly because they have a store cat. The store cat is most excellent and fluffy, by the way. If you go there, give the kitty gentle head scritches but not back pets.
ANYHOW, the laptop died Thursday night and I took it to them Friday at lunchtime. It took about 2 minutes for them to inform me that the logic board had been fried by the failure of the video chip, that it’s an $800 part, and *that there is an extended warranty that covers the issue until the end of this calendar year!* They were able to bill the entire repair to Apple. So having my laptop attempt self-immolation is aggravating, but timing is everything.
MacMedics ordered the part immediately, and let me know that they couldn’t predict how long it would take to arrive. They did inform me of the updates I would receive by email. Off I went to be limited to an iPad over the weekend and possibly for longer. Well, on Monday (literally the next business day) I got a lunchtime email letting me know that the repair was complete. Top notch service!
As a side note, they inquired about my data backup solution without being pushy-selly about it (which is good, as I had that covered), and made a couple of security observations that were helpful and appropriate.
All-in-all, MacMedics is a good alternative to the Apple Store. Especially since the Apple Store is completely lacking in resident cats.
The only place I will ever go for any Mac products.
Brought in a MacBook Pro and had the hard drive replaced and all data transferred. Two weeks later the track pad went crazy. I was on vacation and emailed Dana and he answered back immediately. When I returned home, I took the computer back and after consulting with Chris, decided to purchase a new MacBook Air. I was refunded the cost of the newly replaced hard drive and given a fair trade-in discount for my old computer. Great guys to work with and I recommend them highly for the personal service they provide. The only place I will ever go for any Mac products.

I brought my wife's 2011 MacBook Air into the MacMedics Baltimore office yesterday to see if they could help remove some cruft from her machine's hard drive. I was having some trouble removing all of the adware. Jeff met us at the door and in no time had downloaded an adware removal tool onto her hard drive, removed the adware, a boatload of movies and other items our daughter had placed on the machine and got the machine back to its former speed. Great to see professionals at work. This remains our go-to place when time and getting it right is of the essence. Thanks, guys.

What a great find the MacMedics are! We were having problems with a 2 year old MacBook Pro that would not boot up. We were told at the Genius Bar that the OS needed to be reloaded. (They didn't tell us about saving the existing docs with Target Disk Mode, but luckily we found out about that online.) We reloaded the OS, but the problem re-emerged 2-weeks later. AppleCare ran diagnostics and said the SSD needed to be replaced, but Apple wouldn't touch it since I had opened the case during the prior problems. I drove it to MacMedics without an appointment (exchanged emails with them first), and they put the machine on the workbench and started on it immediately. Gave me options, ran several tests, and opined that it was not the hard drive at all. I left an hour later with a clean SDD and new OS installation, and a bill for under $80. It's been great ever since! In addition, they were super helpful to the other customers at the counter with me. I'm going back whenever I have issues with my Apple devices.

Sooooo much better than dealing with Apple! I got my laptop back in less than 24 hours. At the store, it was going to take 3-5 days to get help & they most likely were going to ship the laptop out. I even love they have a shop cat - a stray they took in during Hurricane Sandy!
I still find it is worth the 200 mile round trip to work with MacMedics.

I found MacMedics online after being totally disappointment with my local Apple store that said my water damaged iPhone5 could not be repaired; it wouldn't charge. Instead, they sold me a brand new iPhone to the tune of $800+ after it was all said and done. I looked online and found that the charge port could be repaired, so off I went to find a repair shop. Walked into MacMedics and Sam checked my phone and said he thought it could be repaired, had to order the part which would arrive the next day. Sure enough, he called me the next day and said the phone was repaired. Cost me less than $90. I will be returning my brand new iPhone to the Apple store tomorrow. So glad I didn't take those guys at their word. If I ever have another issue with my iPhone or other Apple product, I will go directly to MacMedics and bypass the Apple stores all together. I highly recommend MacMedics and will be referring them to all my friends. Thank you Sam for fixing my iPhone and saving me hundreds of dollars. I wish all service techs had your skill.
Thanks MacMedics, especially Mike, for the excellent job of migrating the data and applications from my old Mac Pro to the new one. Could have had the migrating done cheaper at the local Apple Store but wanted to go with a trusted and reliable source for my data transfer. This is the second time I've used Mac Medics, and it was well worth the cost and saving my time. Also, Mac Medics is always there to respond to my questions with sound advice.

Replaced iMac hard drive in less than 24 hours!
We couldn't be more pleased with the quick turnaround time for a failed hard drive! 24hours from the time I dropped it off to when I picked it up. Restored from a Time Machine backup this morning, and we're back in business. Everyone here is really impressed.

MacMedics was perfect! I called them in the morning and told them about my Mac mayhem and they told me to come right over to the store. They fixed the problem in about 20 minutes and gave me all the information about was wrong with the computer and why. I understand that it may not always be that easy, but it was perfect timing. It was a million times more cost and time effective than any experience I have had at the Apple Store. They also were not condescending like the Apple Store can be. I will always come to MacMedics for all my Mac needs and definitely suggest you do the same. I also noticed that they have refurbished Mac products at great prices so definitely think about contacting them before buying your next iPad or MacBook. Two thumbs up! When my MacBookPro began making ominous grinding noises during my travels I feared the worst, and set out to buy a new one - a cost I could ill-afford... Apple doesn't repair laptops more than 5 yes old, so the store in Baltimore helpfully suggested that I consult with a good 'repair shop' before buying and gave me short list of reputable service providers to chose from. Two places in town could have helped but the turn around was more than a week - too late for my next flight. However, MacMedics assured me a 24 to 48 turn around, well worth the longish drive to Millersville. Their service speaks for itself: - professional welcome and diagnostic on the spot, within a few minutes of my arrival I understood the problem (fan was shot); - Recommended replacement of fan, hard drive (to solid state for best performance). - They called the next morning (less than 24 hrs) for pick up; - They had done what they promised, ensured that nothing was lost from my old hard drive, completely updated the operating system, answered all my somewhat anxious questions and replaced - as a courtesy - rubber tabs under the laptop for which I knew Apple charged about $10 a pop. So, the laptop is working very well, the mechanics have been cleaned and renewed, the operating system has been updated, and I saved over $1,000. What's not to like?

I can't tell you how wonderful MacMedics has been! I am a photographer who has used Apple products for years. I end up taking hundreds of GB worth of photos and am very hard on my computer when it comes to editing and storing all of them. My Mac was a few years old and I wanted to upgrade my RAM and hard drive space. After speaking to MacMedics they helped me find the best solution- I ended up installing extra RAM, getting a solid state hard drive for my operating system, and getting separate hard drives to help store all of my photos. They fixed everything efficiently and were really patient and thorough when answering all of my questions! When I later had some issues with my disk permissions, they were able to walk me through what I needed to do to fix these and the problem was solved. Many people have no idea where to turn for Apple services, sales, or data recovery, so they just end up going to the Apple Store and paying too much for it, not getting an accurate diagnosis, or going elsewhere and ending up with terrible service. But that is not the case with MacMedics- they are great on all accounts. They also give you a 1 year warranty- a big plus in my book. Highly recommended!

MacMedics was able to understand my problem and fix my computer much faster than I expected! I spent a week of frustration on the phone with Apple and even went it to an Apple Store but no one was able to help me. I walked in to Mac Medics, explained my problem and I was out of there in less than 15 minutes! I went in on a Monday and my Mac was returned to me on Friday - after being sent to Apple and getting the hard-drive recovered at Mac Medics. "In an effort to replace an old 2006 Macbook's hard drive, I disrupted a few parts and was unable to get the unit to power on. I took the thing to both XXXXXXXXXXX in XXXXXXXXXX and two Apple stores before going to MacMedics. I wish I had just gone there first! The consultant Ed made a few quick adjustments and had the thing fixed in a jiffy, at no charge (I paid Chesapeake Computing a $40 service fee for nothing - they held it for almost two weeks and then informed me it wouldn't turn on - duh!). "I had a hardware issue with my IMAC with regards to the hard drive. When I took my IMAC to the Apple store, the hardware issue migrated to the white screen of death. I purchased a new IMAC and asked if it was possible to transfer data from the old hard drive. Unfortunately, the Apple personnel could not due to the issue with the hard drive. I searched the internet and stumbled upon MacMedics. I called them up and spoke to Chris who said they would look into seeing if they could retrieve the hard drive data. The good news was that it might be possible. I left them my new IMAC and my old hard drive and in less than a week they were able to retrieve all my data from the old hard drive and restore it on the new IMAC. I also brought in my daughter's MacBook Pro and they replaced the old hard drive with a new solid state hard drive. Her Mac is now running efficiently. Pricing is very reasonable. Service is superb. Why would one want to go to any place other than MacMedics. If you want, you can ship your Mac to them and they will ship the repaired product back to you. Might sound corny, but thanks to a hard drive problem I found a place that is honest, responsible and and will only fix what is needed. A special thanks to Ed who worked on my IMAC and my daughters MacBook."

"I just returned from MacMedics in Severna Park. My 2006 IMAC was not receiving e-mail and after trying unsuccessfully for days to solicit help from Verizon and Mac Support, I was at my wits end.
Long story short, I called at 10AM, made the 20 minute trek to MacMedics and was home with my beloved MAC in perfect working condition by 11:45AM. Sounds made up but it's the truth.
The tech (Chris) took over the repair process immediately and got right to the problem while explaining the mechanics of his repair. When I asked "how much?", he said "it only took me 5 minutes so there is no charge".
Needless to say, the customer service here is "off the charts". These people are completely honest and extremely knowledgeable.
I have been considering upgrading to the new iMac 27" and when I do, I will be going to MacMedics rather than an Apple store.
